Dr. Altindis presents on his lab's findings and upcoming research on the Sugar Science. In the microbiome, certain viral biproducts can lead to autoimmunity. One such instance is called viral insulin like peptide (VILP). Certain bacterial strains are correlated with autoimmune diseases, while others are protective.
Dr. Altindis leads the lab at Boston College that hosts multiple studies that show factors other than genetics that lead to autoimmune diseases, including T1D. Findings include a viral insulin-like peptide (VILP) leading to autoimmunity. Upcoming studies will focus on the microbiome, microbiota and mimicry linked to autoimmune diseases.
